YOUR MISSIONS TEAM October was a fun time as we heard about Habitat for Humanity and opportunities for involvement in their great work. Thank you, Jo Ann, for bringing Habitat to our attention. We also had some special visitors from around the world partaking of communion with us – the very fierce Tuabi from the jungles of Brazil, the very beautiful Fatima from Egypt, and the lovely Wong Shi from Myanmar. In November Barb Whaley and the rest of the Missions Committee are taking you to a far off place called Immokalee – actually, it’s just down the road a piece. You will learn some exciting things about the Guadalupe Center and its multi-faceted ministry, about the involvement of CUMC, and how you can become involved personally. Your Missions Committee has also been hard at work planning for 2009. The Lord commanded that the Church take the gospel into all the world. We want to be faithful to his command by providing you with information and opportunities to be involved both locally and globally. We hope you are ready to journey with us throughout the year. One exciting thing in the very early stages of planning is a weekend, mini-missions conference which will take place early in the year. We already have missionary speakers confirmed for the weekend. Stay tuned for more information… Do you remember Josiah??? . . . . Well, being an obedient 8 year old, he went off to school just knowing that he would never go on a lion hunt. But he soon learned that he enjoyed school. He was a very bright student and after graduating went on for further training and became a teacher. He loved to read. After school each day he would stop by the library and pick up a novel to read. One afternoon as he was browsing the book shelves, he came across “World Aflame” by Billy Graham. He had never heard of Billy Graham but liked the title, so he took it home and started to read. By the time he got to the end of the book, Josiah said, “I was on my knees.” He became a new believer in Jesus Christ. His life was changed forever. To be continued next month… Serving together with you, Cheerful Flower Ministry When we enter the sanctuary each Sunday and pray fully prepare ourselves for the Holy Spirit to guide our lives, many times our eyes are drawn to the flowers on the alter which have been given to the Glory of God by generous members and friends. VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED to give those flowers a “second life” and deliver those beautiful blooms to someone lying in a hospital bed, recuperating at home, housebound, or just unable to be at Sunday Worship. Instructions on how to prepare the flowers and a listing of where to deliver them will be provided. If you can commit to one Sunday afternoon every other month to arrange several bouquets and use your visiting talent, Bobbie Slanker, 369-8811 and Anna Hughes, 369-9306, CO_ CHAIRPERSONS of this CHEERFUL MINISTRY would be happy to hear from you. First Time Visitor Bread Ministry Would you like to participate in the FIRST TIME VISTOR MINISTRY and not have to attend a meeting? If you’d like to VOLUNTEER to bake 6 mini breads once every 2 or 3 months you can do just that! You can bake from scratch, or use a mix. They are given out with the Fist Time Vistior packets the ushers present during both services each Sunday. Also included in the packet to help visitors feel welcome is an informational brochure about our church, a map of our church buildings, and a handmade plastic canvas cross, a brochure about “Where To Find It In The Bible” , the current monthly Good News and an imprinted Pen. |
