Our Daily Bread
(Feeding Ministry)
The COMMUNITY PANTRY is now dispensing food to the hungry out of its new location in the church-owned house at the corner of Homestead Road and Shady St. (1418 Homestead Rd. N)
Stop by to see how this works. You can also volunteer to help out.
Hours are:
MONDAY 5:00pm—7:00 pm
SATURDAY 10:00am—12 Noon
Volunteers currently giving of their time are from Christ United Methodist, New Image Ministries, and St. Raphael’s Catholic Church.
All local churches are being invited to participate in this ministry. Some other churches do have their own food pantries and eventually we all may come together in this endeavor. Setting up is a big job and Ben Bendola, of St. Raphael’s has taken the lead in this. All the volunteers are very dedicated to helping this project succeed.
OUR DAILY BREAD COMMUNITY FOOD PANTRY is growing by leaps
and bounds. There are two reasons for this: 1) The present economy
and 2) more folks are volunteering to help. Due to the overwhelming response of now being open on Monday evenings from 5—7 the shelves were very low for the next day and it was decided to close on Tuesday morning. The volunteers just didn't have enough time to go to the Harry Chapin Food Bank in Ft. Myers to replenish the shelves for Tuesday.
They are still open on Thursday and Saturday mornings to serve the needy of Lehigh Acres. Yes! Recipients of the food must have ID that they do reside in Lehigh. They are permitted to come for food twice a month. In June 576 families were served composed of 5,513 individuals.
How can we, as individuals, help these very needful people if
we cannot volunteer to "work" at the Pantry? 1) Monetary donations are always accepted; 2) Donate non-perishable groceries on the 4th Sunday of the month by filling up the box in the Narthex; 3) If you have extra veggies or fruit in your home garden you can bring them directly to the house at 1418 Homestead Rd. (on the corner). However, please park in the church office asphalt parking lot as it's too dangerous to park in the driveway of the house.
On the second Saturday of every month an OPEN AIR MARKET
Is held in that same parking lot. If you would like to bring a table and participate, please contact Pastor Russ Franklin for advanced Booth
rental of $15.00 per 10" x 10" of booth space: 239-898-1260, or
realmenministry@ yahoo.com.
Just stop in on one of the days the Pantry is open to see how
this program is being run, strictly by volunteers from several
churches in Lehigh.
