Our Daily Bread Big Changes AheadThis ministry will officially be moving to the church-owned house at the corner of Homestead Rd. and Shady Street (1418 Homestead Rd. N) on Saturday, August 14, 2010. At the time of publishing, the hours of distribution will be Monday and Friday, from 12 noon to 1:00pm. Recently less people have been coming to our Fellowship Hall for a meal on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Most folks that have been coming to our CUMC Food Pantry prefer to take their food home and cook it, not eat with strangers. Those who truly have no place to cook doesn’t justify continuing as it is now. The Daily Bread Advisory Committee has determined it is time to take our feeding ministry in a different direction. The Advisory Committee is chaired by Tom Foryt and presently includes Pastor Carlos, Pastor Michael Porzio of New Image Ministries, CUMC Volunteers Paul Allen, Jane Mulliken, and Bruce Hyman, along with Raciely Hernancdez and Ben Bendola of St Raphael Catholic Church. All local churches that wish to participate will be invited to consolidate their pantry efforts into this new endeavor. We will continue to accept food donations on the last Sunday of the month, as well as cash donations. The cash donations will be used as in the past to purchase bulk items through the Harry Chapin Food Bank, Sam’s, etc. A needy person may come twice a month to pick up food. They have to present proof they live in Lehigh. A list is kept and checked off. If you’d like to volunteer to help with this ministry, please go to the Fellowship Hall on Monday or Friday until August 14, then to the house. Reminder: The fourth Sunday of the month is designated for bringing your non-perishable food donations to the collection box at the back of the church. |
