| CROSSROADS PRESCHOOL
|
Dearest Families of Christ United Methodist Church:
Thanksgiving Luncheon will be shared on Thursday, November 17 at
12:00pm. This is a wonderful time to share every family's favorite holiday dish as well as the cultural learning
that takes place. One of my favorite books to share with the students at this
time of the year is "Everybody Cooks Rice". The story takes place in an
apartment building, the sister sets out
to find her brother because dinner is ready and everyone is cooking rice in
a different way.
At this time of year being able to be thankful is a blessing from God. I am especially thankful for my father, who will be 80 years old November 22. My family (a husband and 3 children) is looking forward to traveling to Pennsylvania to be with him on his special day.
We have begun our EDIBLE PLAYGROUND & GREENER SCHOOL program. Last month we informed you that we want to encourage the children to enjoy food that's honest, tasty and real, as
well as give them the experience of planting their own crops. The students will also pick, cook and eat the food they plant. For some, that will be a first-time experience.
It's all about getting children together and involved in learning more about our environment, gardening and having fun doing it. Why should we be part of it?
1. It can help us become a healthier school.
2. It connects children to where their food comes from.
3. It helps bring teachers, parents and children together in a common purpose.
Things we are doing in "The Green Club!"
1. We clean the playground every afternoon of any trash.
2. Learn about recycling and have started recycling in our school.
3. Created our own min-landfill to learn the process of how trash is dispose and what"disappears" and what doesn't.
4. Planted some beautiful flowers and painted stones in memory of us.
5. We're making our own recycled paper.
6. Making a creepy-crawly-tower for insects on our garden.
We invite members and friends of the congregation to stop by on a Tuesday or Thursday from 1:30—3:30pm to see what's going on with this new project. There is a cost for this program and if you would like to sponsor a child for $10 an afternoon that otherwise wouldn't have this awesome opportunity we'd love to hear from you. If you are a gardener we'd appreciate your advice and expertise. Just call our office at 368-5605 and leave a message. We'll get back to you.
A sincere THANK YOU from our staff. Mrs. Gina

and gross and fine motor activities
with an introduction to formal D’Nealian handwriting
skills. We complete a developmental assessment oneach student to assist the teachers in planning age and
academically appropriate lessons. Our teachers create an
atmosphere that is comfortable and secure so that the child’s
individual needs are met with warmth, acceptance, understanding,
support and encouragement. Our program’s focus in
on the process of learning, and not the product.
